Smoothies featuring herbal tea

Chocolate Walnut Elixir

Chocolate Walnut ElixirThere’s nothing like a warm, creamy, chocolaty elixir to start your day, especially when it’s chilly outside. I love my smoothies, but once winter sets in here in Michigan I change gears and blend up elixirs to ensure I have the best day ever.

Believe it or not this is my first recipe featuring walnuts. There will be more to come featuring this healthy nut.

Here are some of the top health benefits of this lovely nut:

Chocolate Ginger Elixir

Chocolate Ginger ElixirHello warm, chocolatey, gingery goodness!

The ginger cookie taste I was aiming to recreate didn’t quite happen. However, this is still one flavorful and nutritive elixir.

This recipe is loaded with spices that offer myriad health benefits. The star spice of this recipe, ginger, delivers potent anti-inflammatory action, rivaling non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. Ginger is perhaps best known for settling an upset stomach and providing gastrointestinal relief. It has also been implicated in protecting against certain cancers and is an immune system booster.

Marvelous Maca Elixir

Marvelous Maca ElixirThis elixir features a superfood that has a special place in my heart. Maca was one of the very first superfoods I tried way back in the day. One of my primary health objectives at the time was increasing my energy levels. Maca delivered then and continues delivering to this day.

Along with increasing my energy for normal day to day activities, I also experienced an increase in stamina and endurance when playing basketball and working out. While harder to gauge, I’m sure maca contributed to boosting my immune system as well. These are the benefits I experienced from maca. It’s known for many additional health benefits which I’m sure other people can personally attest to.

The Wonderful Health Benefits of Tea

Tea Health BenefitsTea is the second most consumed beverage in the world, second only to water, and for good reason. Teas are tasty, relaxing, healthful, and drinking a cup of tea is a time-honored way of socializing with others. People have been drinking tea for thousands of years.

True tea, which means beverages made from the leaves of the tea plant, was first discovered in China, but cultures around the world make their own versions of tea from other plants. For instance, there is rooibos from Africa and yerba mate from South America. As you explore smoothie recipes and healthful ingredients, consider using tea as your liquid base. With teas you can add both interesting flavors and important health benefits.

Creamy Coconut Cashew Elixir

Creamy Coconut Cashew ElixirI’m back with another tickle your taste buds elixir. This one is extra frothy and delicious thanks to the cashews.

Cashews are a great smoothie and elixir ingredient that I often forget about. While soaking the cashews I picked up from my local co-op I remembered how well they blend in elixirs. They lend to that signature elixir frothiness while providing a good source of calories. If you’re consuming an elixir for breakfast it’s important to get enough calories to sustain yourself until lunch.

Bulletproof Elixir

Bulletproof ElixirThe bulletproof executive provided the inspiration for this recipe. While I don’t regularly drink coffee, I love his bulletproof coffee recipe, usually substituting my favorite tea.

On the mornings I don’t feel like a smoothie, which is often the case in the winter, I heat up some tea and make an elixir. Think of an elixir as a mocha or latte, creamy and rich, with enough calories to keep you going until lunch.

I don’t have anything against coffee and have read several studies expounding its health benefits, it’s just not my thing. I prefer herb/medicinal teas or if I need a pick-me-up, something milder such as green tea, Yerba Mate, or Guayusa.
