Coconut Macadamia Nut Smoothie

Coconut Macadamia Nut SmoothieThis is one of those smoothies that tastes as good as the name would suggest :)

Crunchy, creamy, sweet tasting macadamia nuts are one of my favorite snacks, but it wasn’t until today that I tried them in a smoothie. My mistake.

Besides being quite delicious, macadamias nuts are loaded with health supporting nutrients, vitamins, minerals, protein, and healthy fats.

Kale Kombucha Green Smoothie

Kale Kombucha Green Smoothie

Say hello to my scoby :)

I woke up this morning with two things on my mind, kombucha and kale. Yes, I know, I’m a little different ;)

You see, my latest batch of kombucha made with white and green chia tea is absolutely delicious, and the Redbor kale from my CSA is so beautiful and scrumptious. It’s no wonder I had dreams of these wonderful goodies.

Kombucha and kale on their own is a winning combo, but not that delicious. Enter fellow blender buddies avocado, frozen wild blueberries, coconut oil, cinnamon, and honey and you’ve got one tasty nutrient dense smoothie.

Chocolate Strawberry Spirulina Smoothie

Chocolate Strawberry Spirulina SmoothieThis smoothie combines two of my favorite nutrient dense superfoods, cacao and spirulina. Add in some fresh fruit and a few other ingredients and you’ve got a delicious and highly nutritious superfood smoothie.

I’ve been adding cacao and spirulina to most of my smoothies lately. They compliment each other nicely and seem to have some sort of superfood synergy going on :)

Cacao is one of my all-time favorite superfoods. Who doesn’t love chocolate? It’s rich in magnesium, iron, chromium, vitamin C, and a good source of zinc, copper, and manganese. It also contains essential omega-6 fatty acids and the amino acid tryptophan, which your body uses to make serotonin, the feel good chemical.

Blueberry Hemp Smoothie

Blueberry Hemp SmoothieHemp seeds are a potent superfood worth incorporating into your smoothies and diet. I don’t consume as much hemp as I did during my vegan days, but do still enjoy hemp seeds in my smoothies and sprinkled on salads and other dishes from time to time.

Hemp is a complete protein that contains a balanced ratio of the essential fatty acids omega-3 and omega-6. Hemp also contains many B vitamins, vitamins A, D and E, iron, sodium, calcium and is a good source of dietary fiber. This fabulous nutrient profile leads to the following health benefits.

Natural Protein Smoothie

Natural Protein SmoothieAre you looking for a protein-packed smoothie that doesn’t call for a supplement or powder, just natural protein from the ingredients?

If you search for protein smoothies around the web you’ll find most of them call for some sort of protein powder. Not that there’s anything inherently wrong with a good protein supplement (I recommend Sun Warrior and a few whey based ones), but some people would rather get their protein from whole foods and/or don’t want to shell out the cash for a high quality product. I’m starting to lean this way myself.

Part of the inspiration for this smoothie came from a brief conversation I had in the comments of a recent recipe, Greek Yogurt Smoothies. The commenter indicated not wanting to use protein powders and how he was able to craft protein rich smoothies without.

Coffee Smoothie

Coffee SmoothieThis delicious and nutritious smoothie recipe was concocted for all the coffee and smoothie lovers out there.

Health experts can’t seem to agree on whether coffee is healthy or not. I believe in bio-individuality, meaning for some people coffee is great, while for others it’s not so good.

There’s a reason many indigenous cultures across the globe have sought out caffeine bearing plants. Caffeine, like alcohol, has been shown to extend lifespan, but only when consumed in moderation.

Here are a few of the health benefits coffee has to offer.
