Smoothies featuring coconut oil

Chocolate Coconut Elixir

Chocolate Coconut ElixirIt’s time to unleash the elixirs! This is the first in what will be many elixir recipes.

If you don’t always feel like a smoothie during the cold winter months, you may gravitate towards elixirs like I have. These warm, frothy beverages deliver just as much nutrition as a smoothie, but feel more appropriate when it’s cold out.

Slight nuances differentiate an elixir from a smoothie. Elixirs are often thought of as medicinal drinks because they’re typically made with a curative tea. You’ll want to choose a tea for your elixirs based on a particular health concern you’d like to address.

Ginger Strawberry Kombucha Smoothie

Ginger Strawberry Kombucha SmoothieKombucha has become my fermented beverage of choice lately. I make my own because it’s easy and affordable.

A few weeks ago my brother had me try GT’s Kombucha Gingerade – oh my was it tasty! The ginger flavor was over the top delicious. My regular old kombucha didn’t seem so special after all ;)

In order to capture that ginger goodness I double fermented my next kombucha brew with fresh ginger. It wasn’t quite as gingery as GT’s, but very good nevertheless.

Bananarama Superfood Smoothie

Bananarama Superfood SmoothieI admit it, I’m addicted! Addicted to superfood smoothies. I like to think of it as a healthy addiction :)

Cantaloupe Kefir Smoothie

Cantaloupe Kefir Smoothie

Alas, my first smoothie featuring the delightful cantaloupe is here :)

I picked up a nice ripe cantaloupe from my co-op yesterday specifically to make this smoothie recipe, which was gifted to me by a faithful reader. Thanks, Mari!

For whatever reason I haven’t been consuming much melon lately, but that’s going to change. The cantaloupe and this smoothie were ridiculously delicious.

Cantaloupe is rich in vitamins A and C and is a good source of potassium and beta-carotene. This nutrient profile offers powerful antioxidant and anti-inflammatory support to your body.

Spicy Arugula Smoothie

Spicy Arugula SmoothieIf you dig the peppery, spicy flavor of arugula then you’re going to love this smoothie. If you’re not a fan of arugula then I suggest finding another healthy smoothie to kick-start your day with.

Arugula is one of my favorite greens. I get excited like a kid in a candy store when it’s available through my local CSA. I typically combine arugula with other greens to make a spicy salad mix, and occasionally toss it into my blender to spice up my smoothie.

Besides being decidedly delicious, arugula offers some fantastic health benefits.
