Ginger Strawberry Kombucha Smoothie

Ginger Strawberry Kombucha SmoothieKombucha has become my fermented beverage of choice lately. I make my own because it’s easy and affordable.

A few weeks ago my brother had me try GT’s Kombucha Gingerade – oh my was it tasty! The ginger flavor was over the top delicious. My regular old kombucha didn’t seem so special after all ;)

In order to capture that ginger goodness I double fermented my next kombucha brew with fresh ginger. It wasn’t quite as gingery as GT’s, but very good nevertheless.

Bananarama Superfood Smoothie

Bananarama Superfood SmoothieI admit it, I’m addicted! Addicted to superfood smoothies. I like to think of it as a healthy addiction :)

Not only do I love the taste, how I feel after drinking, and the health benefits, tossing a variety of superfoods into my blender is flat out fun. Thankfully, I’m not the only one who share’s this passion.

4th of July Smoothie

4th of July SmoothieCelebrate this national holiday with a festive and healthy red, white, and blue smoothie.

For those of you who don’t live in the United States, make this smoothie because it’s nutritious and delicious :)

One thing I always notice at holiday gatherings is a smattering of unhealthy food. Don’t get me wrong, indulging once in a while keeps you sane, and the 90/10 diet, or eating healthy 90% of the time resonates with me. However, some holiday food spreads are just plain ridiculous.

Why not bring something healthy to the table? This fruit smoothie is perfect as a tasty snack or dessert. You can even freeze it and serve as ice cream.

Chocolate Strawberry Spirulina Smoothie

Chocolate Strawberry Spirulina SmoothieThis smoothie combines two of my favorite nutrient dense superfoods, cacao and spirulina. Add in some fresh fruit and a few other ingredients and you’ve got a delicious and highly nutritious superfood smoothie.

I’ve been adding cacao and spirulina to most of my smoothies lately. They compliment each other nicely and seem to have some sort of superfood synergy going on :)

Cacao is one of my all-time favorite superfoods. Who doesn’t love chocolate? It’s rich in magnesium, iron, chromium, vitamin C, and a good source of zinc, copper, and manganese. It also contains essential omega-6 fatty acids and the amino acid tryptophan, which your body uses to make serotonin, the feel good chemical.

Red Hot Fruit Smoothie

Red Hot Fruit SmoothieSome people like it hot and I happen to be one of them. If you enjoy spicy and moderately to very hot foods, you’ll undoubtedly like this smoothie.

Why would you want to add cayenne pepper to your smoothie, other than to heat it up?

The health benefits of cayenne pepper are vast and various. First, it’s an anti-inflammatory and inflammation plays a role in almost every health problem. It’s also anti-cancerous, anti-fungal, anti-bacterial, anti-allergen, and anti-irritant. Call it the king of anti’s :)

Looking to lose a little weight? Studies have shown that people who consume cayenne pepper for breakfast have less appetite and thus reduces caloric intake throughout the day. Cayenne also boosts metabolism, which helps the body burn excess fat.
