Green Smoothies

Green smoothies are all the rage these days, and for good reason. They are perhaps the easiest way to get your daily allowance of healthy green vegetables in a highly digestible form. You’ll find a wide variety of green smoothie recipes below featuring the various greens.

Guacamole Green Smoothie

Guacamole Green Smoothie

I love guacamole just as much as the next person, but a guacamole smoothie didn’t sound that appetizing for whatever reason. Glad I gave it a blend because it turned out great.

This smoothie gave me an outlet for all my beautiful organic heirloom tomatoes, I could only make so much gauc.

This is my first smoothie with tomatoes so I’m going to touch on their health benefits. First, heirloom tomatoes come in many different shapes and sizes and almost always taste better than their conventional counterparts. The better taste is a sign of more nutrition.

Spicy Arugula Smoothie

Spicy Arugula SmoothieIf you dig the peppery, spicy flavor of arugula then you’re going to love this smoothie. If you’re not a fan of arugula then I suggest finding another healthy smoothie to kick-start your day with.

Arugula is one of my favorite greens. I get excited like a kid in a candy store when it’s available through my local CSA. I typically combine arugula with other greens to make a spicy salad mix, and occasionally toss it into my blender to spice up my smoothie.

Besides being decidedly delicious, arugula offers some fantastic health benefits.

Berry Basil Green Smoothie

Berry Basil Green SmoothieIt’s the time of year where I live when fresh produce is plentiful. I’m so grateful for the local farmers who grow my food with much care and love. Most of the ingredients I used in this smoothie are local and organic, just the way I like it.

Basil is one of the herbs I find myself adding to more and more smoothies because of the sweet, but savory flavor it lends. I’m also quite fond of its health benefits, which include anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial properties, antioxidants, and cardiovascular support.

Basil is rich in vitamin K – just two teaspoons provide about 60% of your daily needs. Vitamin K is vital in building strong bones, supports a healthy heart, and contributes to proper brain function.

Dandelion Berry Smoothie

Dandelion Berry SmoothieOne of my favorite new pastimes is harvesting wild edibles. It’s so much fun being out in nature gathering nutrient dense, delicious wild food, for free!

Dandelion is at the top of my favorite things to harvest list. It’s loaded with nutrition and the whole plant can be used as food and medicine. It’s no longer a pesky weed in my book.

We all know how important green leafy veggies are for our health. Consuming ample amounts each day can be a challenge. What I love about wild edibles is that a little goes a long way. Let me explain.

Kale Kombucha Green Smoothie

Kale Kombucha Green Smoothie

Say hello to my scoby :)

I woke up this morning with two things on my mind, kombucha and kale. Yes, I know, I’m a little different ;)

You see, my latest batch of kombucha made with white and green chia tea is absolutely delicious, and the Redbor kale from my CSA is so beautiful and scrumptious. It’s no wonder I had dreams of these wonderful goodies.

Kombucha and kale on their own is a winning combo, but not that delicious. Enter fellow blender buddies avocado, frozen wild blueberries, coconut oil, cinnamon, and honey and you’ve got one tasty nutrient dense smoothie.
